An intimate discussion between artist/designers Chris Schanck and Jack Craig.

We couldn’t think of a better ‘passing the torch’ moment than to host an intimate discussion between artist/designers Chris Schanck and Jack Craig, moderated by Buffalo Prescott founder Samara Furlong.

Upon graduating in 2011, Chris Schanck founded a studio in Detroit employing over a dozen artists, students, and craftspeople. Based in a former tool and die shop in Banglatown, a neighborhood with a dense immigrant population, the local community played a key role in Schanck’s egalitarian studio practice, bringing ‘outsiders' into design culture. Buffalo Prescott is now housed in this same studio space.

Jack Craig trained as an engineer and worked on stealth technology for the United States Navy prior to pursuing his career in design. His practice combines his understanding of the scientific method with an intuitive process. Experimenting with bronzed stone, PVC, molded carpet and broken wood, Craig treats precious and non-precious materials, both natural and man-made, with equal importance, creating furniture, vessels, and fixtures that elude conventional aesthetics.

As part of our desire to demystify the art making process, talks at Buffalo Prescott are designed for artists to share their experiences without being performative. As such, seating will be limited.
