About Sedona Cohen:
Sedona Cohen (b. 1999, Detroit, MI) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and Nosara, Costa Rica. Cohen is an American painter whose work contains mystical alchemical undertones. Cohen spent much of her childhood in the small mountain town of Carbondale, CO. She was an only child with a complicated family situation who escaped into nature, living out elaborate stories and adventures. She was inspired by the fields, rivers, rocks and trees that provided the magical landscape for her experiences. Discovering the magic the natural world holds has shaped the way she paints. As an adult her time spent living in Los Angeles CA and coastal Costa Rica have expanded the horizons of her work. The blues of the ocean and deep jewel greens of the jungle deeply influenced Cohen on both a spiritual and artistic level. Spending time in these places Cohen notes, “I felt like I could observe the alchemy all around me, a beautiful self-sustaining ecosystem that became the basis of my painting practice.” She wants her work to be a space of rest, investigation, meditation, contemplation, and healing for whoever feels called to it. Cohen holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been exhibited in several group shows including Divine Alchemy at Buffalo Prescott, Detroit MI., and Frito Misto II at IRL Gallery, NewYork, NY.
